From Bud Brown of the band "The Bumps"

"I played on a multi-band show in Vancouver Canada in 1966 with the Bumps at an outdoor venue called the Kitsalaino showboat, which is a stage on the beach fronted by a tidal swimming pool, not unlike the Beatles at the Hollywood bowl show, there were about 5000 people in attendance
We were all wiped out by Spade Nielson and the Gamblers, a country and western outfit, who landed in the pool on a seaplane during our show."

Looks like they were out of Langley BC (just outside of Vancouver) and were fronted by George Nielsen. As best I can tell the gamblers were Lloyd Ferguson - Pat Babcock - Rex Howard - Vic Goodmurphy (they all show up as local country musicians except Vic who played drums in a rock band called the Viscounts) Looks like the song was released in 1966 or there abouts.

I've heard that story many times over the years from my dad (Lloyd Ferguson). You are quite right with the names, however I always knew him as Spade Neilsen, never thought he had a regular name.... This 45 is a classic and the laughter on Pickle Squirts is Lloyd. He says he had a lot of fun cutting that record. There are many stories from the music days. Thanks for bringing them back for me.

the band as I played in after that first noted group and who went on the road was fronted by Carl, not George Nielsen . He was formerly a realtor . "Shady" Brown was the first steel player and then Ben Mayo brother of singer Patti Mayo , Dick Paul drummer, Bill Webb guitar and myself Carl Erickson bass and saxophone. Later Sandy Erickson repalced Bill on guitar and David Penner replaced Dick Paul on drums ....
