Thanks. Is it a Rite pressing? If yes, 13265 on the other side and numbers can be read in the dead wax.

The "Down by the River" divshare player is actually "He Stands Real Tall" again. However, great music!

I'm guessing this is a off shoot of Big 4 (OH) can anybody confirm this or tell us date of issue & who the singer is?

Mellow-I fixed the link, sorry bout that. 13265 is on the dead wax but it does not have the usual rite inscribed on it. the first 2 tracks sound like red sovine. I recently bought a large collection and there was several of these in it. I will work my way through them.

These are all recorded for Starday in the early 60's. "Down By The River" & "Ruby Ann" is by Red Sovine. "He Stands Real Tall" is by Cowboy Copas. Starday was notorious for these recordings. They had been doing them since the 50's. The vocalists were paid $50-$100 a pop to record the 'hits of the day'. They were also non-union or 'scab' sessions.

Did some poking about and here's what I came up with. (If someone has already posted any of this sorry)
It looks like it is a Rite pressing, the label is owned by Carl Buckhardt who owned Rite. The Big 6 name comes from the fact that it has 6 cuts on it, the Big 4 record label had records that had 4 cuts on them. Supposedly they were to maximise cuts on a jukebox. A special type of jukebox was needed and the 45's needed to be placed in a specific location for the 4 or 6 song feature to work (I'm not totally sure about this since the post I found mentioned a smaller center hole, but it sounds good so I'm going with it) Delbert Barker is the name came up most often for Big 6 cover tunes, but his voice isn't right for this one. I listened to a bunch of other cover artist from the Rite stable of labels but couldn't find one that matched. I figure there's no name for the artist because he was either under contract to someone else or famous enought he didn't want his name to appear on the label. As far as the date were all of these songs hits around the same time? That would probably be the date. I'm too lazy to look it up right now.

Thanks so much for all the info I was just starting to investigate myself and wondering where or how to start.
