The most common version is by Harry Johnson who I seem to recall was actually Lee Hazelwood. It was released on the God Less America Compilation back in the late Eighties early nineties.
"Harry Johnson" is actually Sanford Clark. I don't know why it was released as by Johnson on the God Less America LP. Other versions of the song are by Jim Reeves, Buddy Long, Loy Clingman and Bob Hood and a late 60's version by Red Kirk. All can be found on YouTube.
